Door-to-Door vs. Phone: How Energy Sales Teams Use Lead Data

Phone teams and door-to-door teams can work off the same file. They just care about different columns.

One file, two ways to sell

Energy companies reach customers two ways. They call them, or they knock on their door. A lot of our clients do both.

The lead file is the same either way. What changes is which columns your team cares about.

Phone teams want numbers they can dial

If you run a call floor, you want the file to be ready before it hits the dialer. That means:

  • Do Not Call numbers already taken out
  • Your own suppression list taken out (current customers, people who've said no)
  • No duplicates, and nothing you've already been sent
  • A clean Excel or CSV you can load and go

Door-to-door teams want addresses and territory

At the door, the address matters more than the phone number. Every lead we send has the service address, city, ZIP and utility, so a manager can sort by ZIP and build walking routes inside the territories their reps are approved for.

The utility matters even more here. Knock on a house served by a utility you can't sell in and your rep just lost ten minutes.

Teams that do both

Plenty of agencies call first and send someone out to close. Others knock first and follow up by phone. Since each lead has both a number and an address, one file covers it.

A quick word on the rules

You're responsible for following the TCPA, your state's telemarketing rules and any local door-to-door permit rules where you sell. On our end, we take numbers on our Do Not Call list and your suppression list out of every order.
